Moving from Permanency to Fixed Term in IOT?

Hi all, I was hoping to get some perspective from those who know more about the current situation with fixed term contracts in IOT's.

So at present I'm a full time permanent member of staff in the private sector. I've applied for a 2 year fixed term position in an IOT (It's to teach on a new course so not career break or similar).

I'm wondering what the prospects are for a permanent position after the 2 year term. Do these generally turn into permanent positions? If not do they re-hire and if so how long would it take to get a CID?

It is a pay cut for me but having been made redundant in the not too distant past I am keen to move into a more stable position for the long term.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

A CID is like a hen's tooth in some institutes.
Some offer 5 year contracts with the understanding that this is long enough to prove yourself (build up a research profile/group or a niche speciality e.g. Consultancy on a specialist topic)
A 2 year fixed term position is exactly that, fixed term. A specified purpose would have the possibility of being extended if the teaching need was justified to HR.
Saying that. ....The strings are being loosened in some cases so it can be political or a matter of becoming to valuable to lose...
It could be a relevant question in the interview (fingers crossed).
Best of luck with the application in any case!
