    Hi all,
Anyone know of anywhere I can off-load my 99 Polo? I'm not sure who to go about selling for scrap, I don't just put it for sale online like a normal car, right?
It failed the NCT so trying to find somewhere/someone to buy it for scrap, are there dealers/scrapyards in Athlone who will take it?

Try looking up local scrap/breakers yards in the golden pages. Just make sure you get a certificate of destruction from them.

You need to scrap it with an 'authorised treatment facility', they will give you a certificate of destruction. This is the only one in the Athlone area under Co. Westmeath, I can't see any close to you in South Roscommon or North Offaly...

If you give the car to anyone else, do NOT hand over the registration cert., instead put their name on it (even if they claim to be a dealer) and post it off to Shannon. Otherwise it will be sold to a teenager and you will start to get demands for tolls and speeding fines.

Cheers, missed the Hammond Lane place in the Dept. of the Environment list. Unlikely the OP will go as far as Mullingar.
