    Hi all,
brought my car (06 Seat leon tdi with 140000km) into get serviced and told it will need a reconditioned gearbox, cost of between 1500 and 1800e:confused:. A colleague said there friend got their gearbox repaired at bohernabreena gearbox centre, anyone any dealings with them? or any advice in general. Might be time to offload my pride and joy Thanks,

Have you noticed a gear problem yourself?

Only had one dealing with them, relating to a Master van gearbox.

Utter disaster, made a total mess of it.

Anecdote is not data and others experiences may vary, but you did ask!

Yea theres a whining noise when in 5th gear at around 100km, a whining noise when you press the accelerate, brought it to a main dealer this morning and thats what they told me

Yeah they tried to convince me the clutch was gone in my car and offered to fix it for a "good price".

Brought it to my own mechanic and he said it was fine. Its still fine 3 years later.

Wouldnt take a cheque off a friend, insisted on cash

Again, only one experience, not data.

if it's just a whining bearing, you should try change the gearbox oil, worked on my corolla gearbox, whine was gone for nearly 40K miles.

During the snow of 2010, whoever the guy was driving this company's Hummer had little regard for others, arrogantly overtaking, blasting across green patches to get around traffic blockages, etc, probably because he felt invincible in his vehicle.

On that alone I swore I wouldn't go near those guys.

As above change the Oil in it first.

That would be my first recommendation.
