VW MK6 Golf 09 TDI - both indicator lights flashing when stopped

    Folks,

I've searched around but cannot find anything similar to my case.

Has anyone else experience both indicator lights on the dash to flash when the car is running for no particular reason? I noticed it 5 or 6 times this morning when driving to work and it was always when I was stopped and its as if I turned on my hazard lights for a split second and then turned them off.

I have a mk 6 golf TDI. I know there is a function if you slam on the breaks that it automatically flashes both warning lights but this was happening when the engine was running but the car wasn't moving.

Typically the car is in for NCT next Sunday.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Jones

Any warning lights on the dash?

Typically I would say it's a hazard light switch fault but this would normally not have any impact when you press the brakes.

This would be how it would be replaced on a Mk4, not sure on setup of Mk6

Thanks Atlantic Dawn, I thought I was going mad the first time I saw it I assumed i'd hit off the indicator by mistake. It just started this morning so i'll do a few tests see if its still doing it after work. I don't think its even related to the brakes as there was times I wasn't even pressing the brake and it was happening.

I've never seen or heard of anything like that before then I was thinking maybe a bulb is going to go or something

Hazard light switch gives trouble in some cars.

Could you get someone else to press the brakes while you look at them - does everything light up the normal brightness? That suggests a switch fault or a control unit fault to me.

Or do they seem a bit dim? Do the brake lights flash with the indictors? That to me would suggest an earth fault - something has corroded in the connectors to the light unit or on the circuit board inside it.

Caution - Not an auto electrician, not a mechanic, just some randomer on the internet.

Thanks for the replies lads. The car has mysteriously stopped doing this so i'm thinking I may of gone temporarily mad.

    Thanks again
