The usual stuff available, but what caught my eye this time around is the Garmin Edge 200 on offer for €89.99 (CRC has it at €121.49 right now).

Tried to post helpful links to Aldi and CRC, but I can't, sorry.

I had one before upgrading. Used it regularly in heavy rain and occasionally for all day rides in continuous rain without a problem. Rain doesn't affect it recording but if it gets very wet you may need to dry out the USB port before uploading (i.e. put in hotpress or near radiator).

Mtb shoes any good? Any good deal on shoes? Was looking at Shimano Rt32 at CRC but size 48 gone already. (I wanted to buy Lidl's ones then turned out the biggest one is uk 11 which size 45. I need 47 at least.

I got aldi shoes last autumn, and the bit the cleat bolts onto is half away from the sole, whereas the lidl shoes had a solid one piece sole/cleat-bolting-into-thing
When I got the aldi shoes they only had a size 10, maybe the big sizes sold out earlier, dunno

20 quid this time around for the 4 cleaning bottles, wasn't that 12 or something last time? Exchange rates horrible atm though.

Might grab the backpack for a bit of exploring this Summer aswell if its very light, 2 liter bladder included:

    https://www.aldi.ie/en/specialbuys/sun-12-apr/products-detail-page/ps/p/mountain-bike-backpack/

    and
The bottom houses a zipper compartment with an integrated roll-out tool bag

That sounds like they've copied that feature off the Osprey bags. I quite like that feature, shame Camelbak don't have similar.

How much was the bike work stand in Lidl?

Just wondering how ripped off I should feel, or if I should feel ripped off at all

I might take a punt on the Garmin, Don't need one, but I've not impulse bought anything in a while

Would I be right in saying the Edge 200 doesn't support accessories like HRM or Cadence monitors?

    Yes, you would be right

Pointless if you have HR monitors and cadence sensors and not compatible with them.

I got one of those jackets before. Keeps wind out no problem and is comfortable but I found it does nor deal with sweat very well. Not too noticeable until you take jacket off though.

Same price, €29.99. Looks to be pretty much identical, just different colours for the levers.

Was looking forward to those technical trousers as they seemed ideal for my hobby of cycling to the base of various hills in Dublin and Wicklow and climbing them on foot. But looking at them in store they seemed to be very thick extremely heavy rubbery material like something somebody on a trawler would wear, no padding in the crotch either so a bit pointless.

Likewise the backpack weighed a ton aswell for really not all that much storage, way too much weight for cycling anyway, I have a mesh Portwest backpack that I use to transport my similar 2L water bladder when cycling or hiking on hot days and it does everything this one did for approx 1/3 of the weight.

Didnt bother with the cleaning stuff either Id rather grab more trusted brands in the LBS for pretty much the same price give or take a Euro.

Muc off is one of the most trusted brands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

I was trying to remember if it was or not or if they were selling an imitation, might grab the pink spray bottle so, cheers.

I bought the chain degreaser and lube. The degreaser was surprisingly good, the grease fell off the chain and cassette with minimal effort.

I had a 200 before and pretty sure I used my Garmin HRM with it...

edit: or not...probably wore my watch on my wrist for HRM

I brought the jacket, as it's more packable than my current one. Don't think anything is going to be that breathable at that price point, so no expectations on that. Also thought the gloves were ok - better than I've brought before for similar money.

Wasn't too many stands left in Greystones yesterday afternoon - only a couple left at that stage. Wasn't much Muc Off stuff left either - nearly all the lube had gone.

I nearly brought the bag, as I thought it was pretty good, and liked the tool holder bit especially. Just couldn't justify it - I have a hydration back pack already and other options if I was commuting with a back pack (I thought it'd be handy for that if you travel light though). It still did a couple of aisles in the trolley while I thought about it though!

i've told my friends, and i suppose more importantly, bought my own, but there is a reason why the gloves were so expensive this year.

Basically these are the exact same as Endura glove, i would bet an awful lot of money they came from the same factory anyways...

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/endura-full-monty-glove-ss15/rp-prod9369

    https://www.aldi.ie/en/specialbuys/sun-12-apr/products-detail-page/ps/p/mountain-bike-gloves/

Also the velcron on the aldi glove is actually better.

i rooted around in the pile yesterday. i reckon they are slightly imperfect seconds.

went through a few and minor differences were found - padding slightly out of place, small things like that.

the muc off stuff - all i know is i went into my local halfords and they seemed much dearer there - unless i bought huge bottles of cleaner - which in turn was much cheaper.....

    RE: Muc off.

Dealz sell a similar product for €1.49 and it actually works really well. They only sell the spray on bike cleaner though, not degreaser.

Works just like muc off, spray on "agitate" with brushes, rinse off.

I don't understand muc off. I have a big bottle. I rinse my bike with water. I spray muc off. Leave it for a few minutes. I wash it off. There is still muck on the bike. A soapy sponge, rinse and a wipe down when dry seems to be the best thing.

Sounds like you're doing it wrong. You need to use brushes as well.

Where can I pick this stuff up?

does it do the same magic with the chain?

I spray it on without rinsing the bike, and then bring it to the hose to take the mud off with an alloy wheel brush for a car.

I also water it down a lot as it seems to work just as good, and not empty my wallet as quick.

I bought the MTB socks as I only own the grey socks that you would wear with a suit, and they're not ideal for cycling. I was going to buy the hydration pack as mine is a bit tired, but the empty weight of the thing was more than the loaded weight of my own, and it seemed a bit on the big side, probably more suited to bike packing more than your average MTB rider

Watering it down works just as well, it's not hard to get muck off in fairness when it's wet and you rinse and agitate.

The start of that movie looks like something nsfw....!!

Stocked up on the Muc Off products and got the stand, back pack & trousers.

Back pack is bulky ish but for the price a grand spare. The trousers are light enough if a bit baggier than I'd like but again mainly got them for a spare pair of shorts.
There were only 2 stands left when I got mine, seem to always fly off the shelves.

I bought it in Dealz, and yes it stripped the chain spotlessly clean too. Fantastic product IMO.

Loads of stands in the East Wall Aldi today

I picked up 2 pairs of "Mountain Bike" gloves for €9:99 each. Really good quality and not too shabby looking either

And 2 bottles of Muc Off for €4:99 each (I think)
