    Hi All

I have been trying to sell my citroen c3 privately for the last 2 weeks but I have not received any calls yet. I had the car priced the same as all other cars of similar age/spec and even lowered the price but still no joy. I was thinking of selling the car to a garage or trading it in against a van but I don't know any good garages. Has anyone sold a car to a garage in Dublin that they could recommend?

    Thanks!

Post up the ad here. If you've had no calls it's generally one or more of the following:

    Too expensive.
Poor ad, with not enough info or good pictures.
Lack of NCT will impact on saleability.
    Price not reflecting condition/mileage.

Less mileage, diesel, same colour and spec, NCT for best part of a year.

Yours has no NCT (practically), is petrol, and the same price.

NCT your car is my advice, reduce price by 300 and see what happens. Also, remove any mention of the issue with the lock, it's not important or much concern for the buyer. Does your car have a timing belt? Has it been changed at the correct interval? If so mention this. Mention servicing etc too.

It looks to me like there are tonnes of newer, cheaper, lower mileage cars. Some of them have more NCT (at very least equal), better spec etc etc. You'll need to drop that price by a good bit, clean it, take the car out of the drive to take photos and put an NCT on it. If you go the garage route they will offer you a pittance for it.

    + 1.

A 12 year old petrol C3 with that mileage and just a few weeks left of NCT is probably worth tops €1500.

    Get it NCT'd!!!!

    What I would do...
    • Remove the km from the ad and use miles as this would be the unit from the odometer for that car and will look better being 110k miles than 178k km even though they are the same thing.
    • Fix the buzzing from the door lock, if it's such an easy repair why do you not just fix it?
    • Book the car in for the NCT and do the test, without this the car will look like there's a big problem on the horizon that you are trying to offload on someone else, NCT's can be done 3 months prior to due date.
    • Remove the seat covers as from the drivers seat and take photos of the seats, covers give the impression the seats are ripped to bits and would need to be replaced.
    • Mention the condition of tyres and if timing belt has been changed, these being recently changed will appeal to a buyer.
    • Remove "This car has not been abused or used for carrying heavy loads, just used for travelling to work.", this gives the impression that it's been used to transport half ton loads of cement every single day of its working life.
    • If you have a service book, manual, spare keys or any receipts for jobs done include photos of these.

Even after this, the car is 12 years old, it's not a particularly popular model for new drivers, I would price it at €1250 as it is now with no new NCT. Selling it to a garage will likely get you about €500 if you can find someone to take it.

its not very low mileage foe a small 12 yr old car !

Having a fresh NCT will make it more appealing. Drop the asking price to below €2k. Physiologically, €1950 can appear more appealing to a buyer than €2000.

Also you only have it advertised for 2 weeks, it can take time to sell a car so be patient. The C3 was not a popular car here so it might take time to find the right buyer.

remove the seat covers and send it for a valet to get those footwell stains out, buy a set of floor mats for it , get it NCT'd , remove the bit about the dodgy lock.

Also was it crashed or is it a bad photo, the front grille looks like its a different colour to the car ? , if it hasn't been crashed retake that photo with no filters on it.
