I haven't been on a bus in over 10 years and was going to take the kids on the bus today from Ashbourne to blanchardstown.

Question is I've no idea how you go about paying for tickets these days? Is it all coins and exact fair? Can I buy tickets in the shop?

    Thanks

Pretty sure cash and change given?
I get the bus from Balbriggan to the airport couple of times a year and pay €5.

Thanks, thought cash was done away with and it was all tickets or coins these days!

Yes they take cash. Sister regularly uses the bus, and she would often pay with a 50 note for a 10 euro journey if she had nothing smaller. Obviously she would get change.

While bus Éireann take cash the drivers do not always have change!

It is not the drivers job to have change and no "float" is given by bus Éireann for any bus. The driver will be giving change from his/her own float. A few people with €50 notes or even €20s on routes like the 109/111/103/105/120 can take all the drivers change after a few stops and then the only option is to pay and hope the driver gets change before you get off or get change in a shop even if it means getting the next bus.
