    Hi. I need a way to stop the birds building before they start. They build under the eaves of the house, between the eaves and a bay window of a 2 storey. My problem is they keep setting off the house alarm, I think they might be hitting off the windows. This happened so many times last summer so need to stop it. Any suggestions welcome

    Having the same problem with my mums house - but the bird crap is the problem - right over the front and back doors;

    2 things I have yet to try, but are supposed to work:
    1. Rub Jeyes Fluid around the are that they usually build - apparently the fumes warns them off, but not sure how long this will last.
    2. Cut little strips of plastic (strands from a turf bag?) and tape them to the area. The slight noise and movement puts them off apparently. I thought this might not look great, so am going to try fishing gut and a good white duct tape.

    The mother got a big ignorant plastic owl/hawk a few years back - would also work well if you can get a good spot to place him.

    Had this problem at each apex(4) of our house last year and we just used plastic bags at the apex and it stopped the swallows from building. I left our garage alone as I do like to see them about and it is out of the way of footpaths and concrete.

    Maybe some of that spiky stuff they use in bus stations etc to deter pigeons could work

    Have just hung a couple of CD's off the drain pipe - 1st year trying this so hope it will deter them - past couple of years they've destroyed paths!

    I used hedgehog gutter brushes, I cut them to size and pushed them in to the gaps, work perfectly.

    Not a sign of the noisey little feckers since. They can make some racket for the size of them
