If it was insured for €17k and that's the market rate for them you should get in or around that. What you need to also consider is if you see a car at a dealers for asking price of €17k they will likely give a 10-15% discount for cash as you will have no trade in for them to dispose of. So if they give you €17k you could be looking to bargain down cars at €18k-€19k.

Insurance company will decide what the market value is and make you an offer that wont exceed the value you insured car for.
You will have to bargain hard to increase the offer. Look up similar spec milage cars to demonstrate the true value of your car.

It may be worth appointing your own motor assessor if you are unhappy with the insurers pre-loss value. I also know a firm of solicitors who appoint an assessor and argue for you on these things

Wait and see what is offered before you take any action

Do as much searching as you can. Make the distinction between your car and the others for sale. Look to the UK for similar cars if you can't find any listed here. Spread the year to a year younger, or older to get more results. Put it all together and present it to the insurance company. It' ahorrible situation to be in, exactly the same thing happened me in 2010. Lovely Singapore 318iSe was stolen from my garden. Keys fished through letter box too.

And a top-gear top tip - don't put your car keys anywhere visible and certainly not near your front doors letter box. It's the oldest trick in the book
