Weird toyota auris speedometer

Looking at a 2011 Toyota Auris recently; saw that the inner speedometer ring (harder to see) was in km/h, and the outer ring in miles per hour (easier to see.)

Is this changeable? Can't figure a reason to do mph or miles anywhere with a right-side drive, almost as if the car was intended for US drivers that want right-side drive.

Car came from the UK - does that matter? Really makes no sense to this US-Expat.

    Thanks!

Its a UK model where they do mph. Simples.

You have kmph on the dial too. It'll be second nature after a while.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_units_of_measurement_directives The EU metric directives. The UK still uses the imperial system (mph) , everywhere else in Europe uses the metric system (kmph).

As said the UK models read in MPH, only suggestion is to change over to a set of Irish dials or deal with it, as the lads said it will be second nature in no time

My dad has a 09 UK imported Auris with mph/kph speedo. You can still change the mileage reading from miles to kilometers if you want, same with the trip computer from mpg to l/100. I'm on my 3rd UK import with a similar setup. You will get used to it within a week, its no biggie.
