Golf mk7: Which version, highline or edition-R?

The edition-R has a "sport suspension" but Highline version also has a harder suspension to cope with the 17inch wheels.

Prefer the look of the edition-r (wheels, bumpers, side-skirts) but wondering whether the ride is too hard? Have driven the highline and the ride is fine but have never driven edition-r.

Also the seats are different between the highline and edition-r but not sure which version is best?

The highline is far better equipped with a lot more creature comforts - climate control, reverse camera, sat nav, parking sensors, auto lights/wipers, etc. The R-line is basically a comfortline with a body kit. So it depends on whether you prefer the go faster looks or the better interior finish.

The highline seats have alcantara inserts so I would say they are much better.

As for the ride, it depends on what you are used to. I think either car would be fine. The GTI and R ride on 18/19" wheels with even stiffer suspension setups!.

What about the Edition 40? Comes with the panoramic roof, half leather heated sports seats, 17" alloy wheels, xenon headlights, climate control, etc. With the free Technology Pack it's a fairly good spec for the class of car.

Pulled into a garage to get petrol a couple of months ago, and saw a 141 Golf being attended to by the AA. A guy I know had quite a new Seat Altea van (made by Volkswagen) and it blow up. He now has a Peugeot, and he much prefers that to the Seat.

I'd imagine the only reason the aa were in the petrol station was that the owner put petrol into their diesel or vice versa. As for the altea way too vague to know why it blew up. But anyway vw are in general very reliable I have a mk5 golf and would have no concerns about buying any new vw from a reliability point of view anyway.

I find the suspension quite harsh at times in the highline on back roads. I came from an Almera . The golf stays glued to the road though.

I think once the golf goes onto 17" wheels, it gets the sports suspension set up.

I am not 100% on this, but the R version may have the multi link rear suspension which should be better. All cars over 120hp get it.

Just to be clear, the Golf R is a different car altogether to the Golf Edition R. :)
