Samsung Smart TV

    Hi Guys,

I bought a Samsung Smart TV before Christmas and love it. I went with the model that has soarview/freesat receivers built into it after the sales rep went through the differences between the two models. I decided to go with the more expensive one (€100 extra) as it had the built in soarview/freesat.

Over the weekend I got a cable ran from the sat on the house to the new tv and have since tuned in freesat and connected up the soarview aerial HOWEVER there doesn't seem to be a way to have both the soarview/freesat channels in the one menu? I have to switch between the two which is annoying but even more so to someone that isn't techy i.e. the wife. I'm a bit pee'd off with the sales guy for never mentioning this to me when I bought it as I could have spent the extra 100 on a combo box and be done with it.

Is there anyway of getting the two broadcasts into the one channel menu?? If not do you think it is worth complaining and seeing if they will give me a combo box discounted or say I want to return the tv for the other model and get a combo box from them with the extra 100 euro?

I know 1st world problems and all that..

    Cheers,
    Neon

It is a condition of Freesat that the TV is set to Country=UK. It is a condition of Saorview that Country=Ireland. There you go.

However, the change from one to the other is a PITA, but SWMBO has learnt how to do it.

If you set the TV to Country=Ireland, you have FTA satellite with no EPG.

    I just live with it.

    Hi Sam,

So are you saying if I change over to FTA instead of Freesat I should be able to have both Soarview and FTA on the one Channel list?

When I did an initial scan for FTA I got 500+ but no HD channels? Any ideas how to get them on the FTA on a Samsung TV?

    Thanks again for your reply.

You still will not get them on the same EPG. The Samsung (if it is like mine) treats the FTA, Aerial, and Freesat as three different inputs and does not mix them. If you set it to Ireland you will have the choice between FTA and Aerial. If you set it to UK, you will have the choice between Freesat or Aerial. If you scan for FTA, you will have the choice between Freesat, FTA, or Aerial.

Not very good. Later TVs might be less clumsy.

But it does do RTE player, plus other apps.

A grand not to worry. Might just leave it with Freesat so. I have the TV set to Ireland so have the RTE/TV3 players etc but have the Sat set to UK so got the option for Freesat and used a Manchester Postcode to program it.

I might down the line buy a good combo box with recording function so I can have the best of both without having to switch broadcasting settings to switch between Soarview/Freesat.

You can record from the TV - just put a HDD into USB 1 and format it.

You cannot watch and record without restriction. You have only one tuner.

Use your Samsung for Saorview channels with with a hdd plugged into it. Buy a humax box for freesat! Why? Because the tv does not have dual sat tuners which means when u record a program it is unlikely u will be able able to watch watch a different channel while recording. I have a Samsung smart tv and a dual sat tuner humax foxsat hdr box, works a dream.

What's the model of the TV?
