The owner of the local pub has fibre from Vodafone but wants to run it to an apartment at the rear. They are on different fuse boxes so home plugs are not going to work. Is fibre the only real solution to get the broadband to the apartment?

A setup using directional antennas might also work.

second this - two years ago I set up two directional antennas about 100m apart between two office windows.

line of sight required but worked fine though a few trees, etc.

there is some loss of throughput but worked well enough to host 11 people in the secondary office.

Had 100 MBit in master, got about 40MBit in the secondary office. It was very stable - the few outages we had were due to the master office unplugging something...

Running Cat5/6 network cable would also be fine provided its within 100m, WiFi directional antennas as the previous posted suggested would also be a good option and tend to work well.

Cat 5 would work well, see it setup in another house over 120m working, although it needed a router at either end.

There is a potential risk when connecting electrical systems between houses though, its possible to get earth loops and if ac becomes involved (which it shouldnt really with cat 5 / ethernet ) you can get issues if there are two different phases. Wireless eliminates these at least.
