I have used one a few times at work. It's a fairly old one but works fine. It's a simple enough machine, constant speed, but the blade tension and the fall rate (cutting rate) can be adjusted. You also need coolant, something that isn't mentioned on the link you gave. The constant friction does heat up things.

They don't cut as square as you expect and we have often had to mill the cut ends to get them square for good joints on aluminium extrusions etc. Should be good enough for welding etc.

To be honest I wouldn't like to buy one without seeing it working first.

I am in cork. are they a good job for cutting items straight. I don't know anything about them but does a 6 inch one mean that 6inch is the widest they will cut?

Have a Spaldings one for the last 20 years.

Have to use a cutting oil such as Castrol Cool-edge

Will cut a 12" x 7" box or a 7 inch pipe, those are the max sizes, wouldn't be doing anything that size regular, only a once off.

Cuts small stuff dead straight, as you get bigger it goes off a little but not much.

I had a lot of cutting to be done of a 6" pipe with 5mm walls. Got a crowd in Cork to do it with an automatic industrial band saw and those cuts are not 100% true either.

The cuts all depends on how great the blade is , on the origanal post the blade is only 1/2 inch so can loose accuracy

you have to set up the blade vertical as well on the bigger saws . not sure about the smaller saw.
Lad i work for has the small one with the half inch blade.
I find it very slow. i would advise going bigger

I bought a saw exactly like that a few years ago. A brilliant piece of kit for the money I have cut loads of box iron, straight cuts and 45degrees etc.
I had a small roller shutter business and used it a lot.

    I would certainly recommend it
