Just recorded this about an hour or so ago, was outside the house in mayo, not windy, light was on, was like something was flying around me but i couldnt see anything, got the phone out and this is what it sounded like - may be some sort of fly or something, i dont know but its weird and i cant find an answer to what it is. Anyone know.?

Sounds like Snipe drumming to me...courtship flight with sound made by feathers!

How rare are breeding snipe ?
I used to hear that "drumming" sound at my house until about 5 or 6 years ago - since then nothing !

Is that what that is! Jesus I've been wondering for years and nobody could tell me. Hear that every calm evening round here, they're all over the lower areas around here. We'd call it moorland but it's basically pre-bog :D

What kind of habitats are near your house?

Steep Dry Grazing land behind the house . -marsh and reeds and a small lake in front and left - mixed woodland behind that . - mudflats and estuary to the left - so a fair mix -
