Would recommend the sketchers walking runners. They are the most comfortable ever. Have a pair of sketchers go walk slip ons too that are incredibly light and not as sweaty.

About the €70 mark. I saw a "buy one get the second pair half price" there last week though so you could get the runners and light slip ons for €105. Do loads of walking myself as have had two recent back surgeries so support and comfort are very important to me!!

Another shout here sketchers. Not sure about the model named above (never heard of them so know nothing about them) but I have a pair of sketchers arcade chats and they are extremely comfortable. I don't drive and I walk everywhere so I'd do a lot of walking and I could easily walk all day in these things with no problems. I injured my leg 3 months ago and have to wear a plastic brace that fits into my shoe to walk properly. Every other pair of runners or shoes I have were painful to walk in at first and still cause me at least some discomfort now. All except the sketchers, they have been just as comfortable with the brace as without since day 1. They're not even a proper walking shoe, they're more of a casual/fashionable runner.

Wonder if I called to the sketchers shop can they advise on the best shoes or should I see s foot specialist? I think I have a high arch and the ball of my foot gets very painful

If you want advice like that then I'd go to a specialist. I doubt they would have someone trained in something like that on the sketchers shop. Never been in it though so I could be wrong.

I'd say try Elvery's - they can measure and fit you for an arch support that will fit in any pair of runners.
I love my New Balance trainers for walking, very light and breathable but supportive.

They are called Skechers go walk. I don't have a pair but I've heard they are very good. They have a memory foam insole so they should provide good cushioning.

I second (or is it third or fourth!) the recommendation for sketchers go walk. The most comfortable walking shoes ever. No blisters, no ball of the foot pain - when on holidays i used to have to buy adhesive foam ball foot pads because of the pain i got walking. However with the go walk i can walk all day without a problem. The only thing i don't like about them is they don't last as long as a pair of sneakers - i only get about 4mths out of a pair - i literally i walk a hole in the bottom of them. I do a lot of walking though!

I'd be cautious of the elverys arch supports - i got a pair to go in my sneakers (not my sketchers). One was fine and the other was slightly mis molded and the pain i got in that foot was unbearable - i'd wake up in the morning and not be able to put weight on my foot from the pain. I ditchec the insole and then the sneakers, got another pair of go walk and haven't had a problem.

Asics Kayano are highly recommended for walking.

Don't buy online. Go to one of the specialized shops. Also what kind of walking is it? Do you mean walking in the city and so on or are you actually going hiking? For rough paths you need something completely different. Not that I ever bothered but Merrell or Salomon would be the brands that I know people often pick. Also you are looking at a budget over 100 euros if you need shoes for rougher terrain.

I love my skechers! Always wore asics but then someone bought me a pair of sketchers - used to feel like my feet ached to have them back on when I would take them off!

1+ on the skechers - I walk from meeting to meeting around Dublin a bit, so bought a pair of the Go Walk 3 in black, so I don't look too bad (previously wore runner) with my dresses - they are SUPER comfy - they're big sizes, so defo go to the shops - gutted I missed the buy one get one half price offer though - plus their runners are v funky looking :-)

Elverys have buy one get one free on at the minute - they stock sketchers

It's worth going to a specialist to try to find the best pair for your feet. Especially if you have any existing issues.

I'm haunted trying to find a pair that suits me best - the fit flops range generally works really well for me. Think I'm on my third pair at this stage.

Personally i would not recimmend sketchers. They are cute and cool but just do not provide any support for your foot if you have arch issues.

Asics are specially made for certain arches but they are expensive. Go to elverys as recommended, they will identify the best trainers. At least you can try them on see how they feel. When you try on a "wrong" pair then you will know the difference straight away.

    Best of luck! X

If you intend walking in any of the national parks I think you should go for a hiking runner rather than a straightforward everyday, city walking shoe. The terrain can be very rocky. Salomon are the best that I have found. They provide plenty of support and are quite light. Not cheap though.
