Broadband in Ireland.

Broadband in Ireland.. What can I say, good or bad? Personally I think it's atrocious and the prices are astronomical, which is expected from an oligopolistic market. I heard the government implemented a scheme called the NBS and supplied broadband to remote areas of Ireland. What is the point? Obviously it's great that a lot more people can access the Internet but surely they need to fix the current wifi in place at the moment? I mean, im not going to say which company im with but everyone I know has some broadband problems. Is it really that hard to supply a consistent service for the amount we are paying?!

I realise that in some areas it isn't possible to have perfect broadband speeds. I live in an urban area and the wifi just sucks. I'm sick and tired of hearing "Well everything seems fine on our end." Like come on, it's absolutely ridiculous. There are hundereds of posts here on boards.ie of people complaining or presenting their Wifi problems. It sickens me. Don't get me wrong there are far more important things that need to be fixed e.d housing supply, homelessness etc.. I hope I don't seem so ignorant here but Ireland is being sucked dry of its cash for sub par Internet services.

Does anyone share my view? 😔

Wifi is a crap technology and 2.4ghz is overcrowded in urban areas. Not the suppliers problem

Yea but sure I'm not asking for 100mbps+... I'm perfectly happy with 10-15 if it was consistent.

You should really learn about the technology before you go off on a rant. Wi-Fi is not the concern of any provider.

Yea they're concern is Money, obviously, but for the amount the average an Irish person pays for broadband, is unjust.

I think what you mean is the line speed and not "WiFi" which is the wireless network itself.

But yes I completely agree. For the price we pay I really think we should be getting a lot more. Outside of the country prices are half of what we pay at the moment and they get much more. I live just outside the city myself and my speed fluctuates massively. Unfortunately, it doesn't really look like this will change anytime soon.

One can wish for a multi-billionaire to save Ireland's broadband troubles haha

You having issues with your WiFi or your broadband, OP? WiFi issues would concern your router, broadband your supplier.

Still not the suppliers problem. If 2.4Ghz is full either go to 5Ghz (or move).

I think the op doesn't understand the difference between mobile internet and Wi-Fi. I get 100mbit+ over Wi-Fi, pity my internet connection is only ~6mbit ;)

Considering the other post by "Dr.." it appears they have a problem which is internal wireless connection and nothing at all to do with the broadband provider.

Definitely sounds like a wireless issue, not broadband.

Is quality any better when hardwired to router (e.g. straight connection with ethernet cable rather than wifi connection)?
If better speed then issue is a wifi one on router (I would speculate)

I get just over 240 down on my 240 connection - and at best half that on 5ghz wifi, and half again on 2.4
