Anybody have a clue where the EGR valve is fitted on the 1.4ltr Petrol Mk1 focus ?

Haynes manual diagram is very poor and doesnt give its location, currently experiencing a rough idle in the car and want to check the EGR valve but no obvious sign of it.

You sure ? Haynes manual for the car seems pretty sure there is stating " the egr system fitted to 1.4 , 1.6 litre engines and diesel engines consists of EGR valve, modulator and vacuum hoses"
It has diagram of location but its really poorly done and seperate instruction for removing petrol one vs diesel one

Thanks, back to the drawing board so on discovering what is causing my problem.

Basically picking up a cylinder 3 misfire when idling, when engine is warm.

Misfire is only there when idling, it is not there throughout the range.

Coil pack replaced, spark plugs replaced, leads replaced.

Vacum hoses replaced a few years back and still fine.

Might be an idea to do a compression test and check valve timing.

Yeah Compression test is showing the compression is a little low in the cylinder that is having the misfire at idle.

Mechanic has suggested that it would be take the head off job to sort out. I am currently thinking about the economics of it as the car wouldnt be worth much money anyway, and i was hoping to change during the summer months.

Possibly an injector dribbling on idle and when the revs pick up it's ok, very rare also if the injector is leaking the compression in the cylinder will b lower just to the cylinder been washed out with fuel, very rare but we have seen a few, wouldn't be taking the head off in a hurry these cars are very solid in that department

OP, have you tried taking off and cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve? If it's a Mk1 focus and has never been replaced/cleaned it could be gunked up.

It's a silver metal diamond shaped part on the bottom right corner as you look at it from the front. It'll be close to where the big ribbed air tube enters the engine.

    I think it's an 8mm socket job.

If you go to your local motor factors and explain your situation they should sell you some carb cleaner or equivalent.
