    Hi,

    I'm just wondering if anyone would know where I could get the medical part done for free? I could go to Specsavers and they'd give me the free eye test, but is there any way I can cut corners on a GP visit? Don't have a medical card

    If you need a medical, and don't have a medical card, or health insurance you will have to pay it. If you can't afford to pay for a medical, you probably can't afford to drive.

    and if you haven't passed a test on your previous permits, maybe you shouldn't be driving :eek:

    Pass your test and your insurance will be cheaper.

    There's actually people driving around on their 8th,9th and even higher permits.

    Who's to say the OP even took a test? They could of applied for a LP and just threw it in the draw? And now they want to get their License?

    Nope had to get a medical done for the car then the truck then the bus €35 each time from the GP well mine anyway my GP also did my eye test but if you need a medical you will have to pay even if you have a medical card most GPs will charge as it's not coverd by the medical card

    So unless you know a registered medical doctor who will do it for free you are stumped

    If you definitely need a medical, there's no point getting a separate eyesight report because the medical includes eyesight questions and I can assure you do not need a separate eyesight report if your doctor is happy to sign off your eyesight. In fact, the medical would trump the eyesight report in that case.

    OP, you only need an eyesight report for your first learner permit (unless you want to remove an 01 notation after laser surgery for example).

    You'll only need a medical if;

    - you're over 70 (and your last medical report has now expired- they'll have it on record if it's still valid but the licence term will be curtailed by it)
    - want group 2 vehicles on your permit (which you can't have unless you have a full B) or
    - you answer yes to any of the driver fitness questions (exceot the eyesight question) on the D201 application for a learner permit form

    Unless any of the above applies to you then you won't need a D501 and/ or D502 for your 993 permit. The main thing you will need is proof that you've failed a test within the last two years or proof that you've applied for the driving test. There isn't a pile of information in your post so I just wonder if you think you need it just because it's a 993 permit :)
