RTE 1 doesn't work

Hey, my parents put up a dish about 13 or 14 years ago to get the free to air channels. They get all the Irish free channels (rte, tv3, tg4 etc) and the BBC and ITV channels too. There was no problem when soar view came in January 2014. However since January this year when ITV Ireland was introduced, my parents have found that all the saor view channels have been very poor, and often find the channels are black (unresponsive) or break up a lot. Does anyone no how to fix this or has anyone come across this.

My mother has retuned the TV a couple of times but nothing has changed. Also, a couple of people have told me putting up a dish and and not paying for the TV channels is illegal, is this true?

You can put up a dish and with a Freesat box get FTA channels without paying or simply use a second hand Sky box and receive FTA channels with no subscription necessary.

Okay maybe I didn't make myself clear but a freesat box is what my parents have, do you have any solution for RTE 1 not working though?

Receiving the Free to air channels from the UK is not illegal so whoever said that was telling porkies. The dish is whats providing the UK channels. Unless your parents have Sky (which you suggest they dont) then they will be receiving the Saorview channels via a UHF aerial and not the dish receiving the UK channels. Is there an aerial in their set up at all?

Are all the channels having issues?

Checking the cables/connections at the tv/box etc might solve any issues.

Has the box that is being used for the Irish channels been re scanned? alot of channels on Saorview are blanks.

Parents don't have sky and they don't have an aerial just a dish. Just the saor view channels are acting up. Box has been rescanned too. My mother checked the cables and connections in January when it started and didn't find anything wrong (she had to put a new freesat box in a couple of times over the years so she would've fixed it if that was the problem).

What TV or box are they using for Saorview?

They're using a combi box. They have the problem with all the tvs around the house.

The satellite feed is connected to satellite socket on the combi box, what is connected to the aerial socket on the combi box? Saorview reception requires an aerial feed. How are the other TVs receiving Saorview?

As The Cush said Saorview works from an aerial. If your mother has had the bx replaced a few times has it been by a professional installer or just herself or a friend????? I would suggest checking all your connections/cables and go looking for an aerial as that to me might just be the issue.
