Inspiron 620 questiion

Hey just looking for some advise.

after installing a new graphics card I managed to fry my inspiron 620 motherboard, I brought it to a shop and left it there for a week to find out the motherboard is now broken.. anyways, the motherboard is way too expensive to replace so I was considering buying a new pc tower and motherboard and transferring the power supply, hard drive, processor and heat sink into the new tower, my question is would there be any road blocks to doing this like eg: the dell power supply not being compatible with the new motherboard?

any advise would be appreciated

You can just buy a new motherboard and keep using the same case if you wanted. Dell have stopped using non-standard form factors and connectors so you should be fine.

A quick search turns up that the Inspiron 620 uses mATX, so you'd need an mATX motherboard. The only other thing you need to worry about is making sure any new motherboard has the same type CPU socket.

the cpu socket is lga 115x on the board but the processor which is a i3 2120 seems to show that its socket lga1155. can I assume that 115x and 1155 are the same thing?

115x is the CPU locking mechanism, rather than the socket.
So yes it's 1155 you're looking for.

Yes it is. Very expensive though.
You should be able to pick up a non-Dell board for about €50.

cheers for the advise, went to maplins and the cheapest one they had was 200 euro!! lol, think ill just go on ebay and order. can I get away without buying a matx board or does it specifically have to be one? what size is the board I showed you in the link, they go by terms like micro atx or something don't they?

Whether you can fit another form factor depends on your case.
