Looking at changing to an SUV,

If I was to buy just on looks I'd opt for the x5 but there's a bit of choice:

    Audi Q7
    Rangerover Sport
    Mercedes GL or ML
    Bmw x5

Road tax not an issue but want reasonable running costs as it'll be doing a bit of mileage, must be diesel.

What's your opinion? Anything else I should be looking at, not gone on discovery and mrs monkey doesn't want an estate.

A 520d touring and stop all the messing with over priced jacked up nonsense that is an SUV

I'd cry having to put money with my 530 for a 520 estate, there seems to be no value out there in them, Mercedes E class estate looks good, but agin same problem nothing of any value out there with reasonable milage. The suv's are cheaper.

Op, I had the same choice a year or so ago. Loved the looks (and still do) of the Q7 but eventually went with the ML320. Still love it but had a few consumable issues with it that we've sorted out (brake light failure/short which is a design flaw, handbrake lever broke, another design flaw, front driver door lock failed - another design flaw) but would get another at the drop of the hat.

We're moving to the Netherlands soon and so far, despite the wheel being in the wrong side, I'm leaning to taking it with.

Let me know if you want any more info on the Merc range.

Very little Ml's out there either, I love the look of the GL but it's a monster size, a bit to big for day to day usage I think, none out there either. Real lack or cars between 08 and 11.

I drove the GL in the states for a few months. Love it, monster or not.

The ML suffers from too small a boot in my view, especially with a buggy. Rented an E Class in Belgium and had far more room with the same buggy.

Rear passenger room with the GL is awesome too.

    What about a landrover defender?

Yea the E class has tons of room, the cheapest one new shape I can see is 25k with 200k on the clock which is a bit rich and the milage is too high..

Defender is a bit agricultural, this will be doing a good bit of motorway milage..will only see a farm when we're visiting the inlaws.

What about the Volvo XC90? Older design than the others but that can be an advantage in that alot of problems would be ironed out by the later stages of the model's life.

What about the VW Touareg. Its the same as the Q7 underneath and you might a higher spec with more kit for the same money if you buy the Touareg. I think the Volvo XC90 is another great choice too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
