I am setting up a home network and have shared files but when I go to access the files I get a message box, you do not have permission to access
\\ computer-PC\users\name. How to I grant the permissions to access the files?

You need to set permissions for each folder you want to share, right click, properties, sharing, share.
That should give you the permissions box and you can set permissions for owner, homegroup or everyone.
You can set each permission to read only or full read write control.

Being Windows, sometimes the share button doesn't work properly sp then you will have to use the advanced sharing button.

I have six PC's on a homegroup and getting them all to share properly is a pita. What I've done is to to set permissions to everyone, full control and then you can access folders via the network tab, this even works with Ubuntu but only in one direction.

Thanks for you help. I went to the folder I wanted to share and gave everyone full control and then shared it and it worked.
