Quantum Oil query

I was in the Audi dealership today getting a top up bottle of oil for the RS4..
They used to have a deal for 1L of castrol edge for 10 quid which I've got before.

However that offer was over so the service guy offered me Quantum oil instead for cheaper. It's proper spec oil and made by Castrol apparently.

I hadn't heard of it before so was a bit dubious, but was assured that the quantum was the oil used in the garage for servicing..

Still not 100% sure, but I trusted him and grabbed it anyway, anyone have any experience of this oil?

And i've always put castrol in so am wondering if it's up to the same quality?

There was a long thread about this and ultimately the oil is made by castrol however the raw materials for the quantum oil are not all out as good as that used for the castrol oil. But it's ultimately a grand oil and I've used it in my car the last service. But castrol edge would be a better oil but there is very little in it.

If it was me and I was lucky enough to have this dilemma :D then I'd stick with tried and tested. For the extra few Euros, get the Castrol elsewhere and at least you'll have peace of mind while driving.

Yeah I guess, but my point would be why should I pay a premium for Castrol to top it up if when I go in for a service they stick in 10L of quantum oil in it...

Afaik the main vag dealers use castrol oil not quantum when they service cars they just sell the quantum which is kind of pushed as a vw own brand oil.

I see. I thought you were putting in Castrol all along. In that case it doesn't make any sense to buy the Castrol for a top up if it's Quantum oil that's in it already.

Ok, the service guy said that they use the Quantum for all the servicing.... Might double check on that.

Not Monaghans in Galway anyway. They use Quantum, and offer good a price for the 20 liter drum too. I've used the quantum 5W30 longlife in my Octavia 1.9 without any problems....fine stuff. Just make sure you change oil on time regardless of what oil brand you use.
