solid fuel range and flues

    Hi
I'm thinking of getting a solid-fuel range, I've heard the flue can chat almost as much as the range, depending on how high it has to go up the chimney. Is there any time-of-thumb for figuring the height it has to go to? I live in an old end of terrace, Victorian, typical Dublin redbrick, so the high ceilings would add a fair bit of height ( and extra cost for flue) over a typical, modern house.
    Thanks
