Clothesline winder

I have a clothesline winder. The lever on the pops up and down like a ratchet to lock the handle.
The problem is the nut and bolt holding the lever keeps unravelling. Is there any type of nuts, bolt, washer combination that will keep the lever tight enough to operate freely while not winding open in the process?

If you get a longer bolt and a second nut on it and the two nuts locked tight together it shouldnt move.
Other option is put thread lock on the existing bolt

Some Loctite on the nut should help too.

The weight of the handle should be sufficient to latch it without doing anything to the nut and bolt .You could try and add more weight to the end of the handle ?

You could also use a nylon nut lock on it. You know the one with the blue nylon just inside the threads. But two nuts locked against each other should also do.

Agreed. I don't understand how the nut is undoing itself as its only moving a fraction and then returning to its original position. Either way, loctite will suffice.

If that's the case put the bolt through from the opposite side.it will tighten rather than loosen

Replace existing nut with a nyloc nut as already suggested or put another nut on as a lock nut, once locked tightly together they shouldn't budge.

it has a nyloc nut already on it, I looked at it again with a mirror, the bolt is about 5 mill too short and isn't getting far enough into the nut. Winder is a great idea but the pieces in the box are all sh*t and ill fitting.
    Thanks for the suggestions
