    Hey all,

I appreciate that this might seem like déjà vu after yesterday's April Fools thread, but this is a genuine thread and poll, and we'd appreciate your feedback on it.

Boards is undergoing a few changes soon, and one of those changes is a tidy-up to the categories that each forum falls under. The current system is outdated and a mess, and the idea is to group forums in a clearer fashion for posters to find. Some forums will remain where they are, others will be moved to obvious new homes, and others are still up for discusstion, such as Farming & Forestry.

At the moment there are two trains of thought as to where Farming & Forestry should go.

Society & Culture > Farming & Forestry (where it is now, basically)

Business & Finance > Business Sectors > Farming & Forestry

The initial suggestion was to place F&F in Business & Finance, however the CMods (myself being one of them) felt that (a) yes it's a business but it's also a way of life and (b) the forum encompasses more than just farming business discussion - there are threads on anything from humor to depression. In light of a few commemts in the April Fools thread, that may have been presumptuous of us, so my apologies for that.

As posters, this is your forum, so ultimately you decide where it gets to go. And the poll above will go a long way towards that decision if you wish to have your say. If you have any other comments or wish to discuss it, your posts are welcome below.

Should the forum be moved, it won't impact links or bookmarks - they will all remain the same.

    Regards,
    Mike

As I said in the other thread, I see farming and many of it's associated careers as a way of life. The forum is much more than just a business forum. Elements of what we discuss could fall into Motoring, Entertainment, Politics, Recreation and Hobbies, Science and Health or Social & Fun. However, no one would suggest F&F should align with any of those either. In many ways the forum is a community, as is the farming community. As a poster I would choose the Society and Culture category.

A change of category would put us under new CMods also. In my view, better the devil you know. And knows us and our 'little ways'. As a mod I would choose Society and Culture.

    I'm voting to stay put.

+1. Only ever had one instance of coming to the attention of a Mod or C'Mod and in that case it was Taltos. I received a gentle rap on the knuckles and a very understanding pm :)

I just have it bookmarked on laptop and phone so where ever it's located makes no difference to me.
Wherever you hide it, we'll find it ;)

Would it be possible to give it two front doors.?
Farming is Irelands biggest indigenous industry and most of us have to treat it as a bussiness not a hobby, but is also a way of life.

Society and Culture is a very broad catagory and is fairly much a mish mash of catagories that do not fit in elsewhere. F+F is lumped in there with some very strange bed fellows. Makes it hard to explain to some one how to find it.

Business for me, all the way.

The farm has to deliver a wage to me whatever happens. The bills and loans have to be paid and investment to make the business more efficient and simpler and more profitable have to come from the farm also.

The social aspects are secondary for me, being social is more difficult on an empty stomach:)

Most of the social aspects are coming from meetings, farm walks etc to improve the business, to my mind anyway.

As for 'way of life', that reminds me of De Valera and comely maidens dancing at the crossroads, but that's just me and definitely not thought of that way by everyone.

TL;DR, business is a better fit, imo.

I see it as a way of life as well as a business
There are also small holders and hobby farmers
Who would not be running it as a business.
A lot of subjects would be involved as said like nature wildlife tractors machinery motors laws
Rights etc. It has a very broad scope and would be more than just a business.

Every farm should be a business first and foremost.

If you want to keep pets find somewhere else to discuss it.

I would love to shoot one. A family member used to have one + bayonet in his attic from The Rising. It was a heavy bit of kit. Handed it in during one of the gun amnesties a few years ago.

Just laughing to myself as this thread has gone wayyy off topic as we normally do in F&F. Forewarning to the Biz mods

I've avoided this thread as I'd happily run it off into a tangent elsewhere. I think Soc is the best place for it, to me it's more of a lifestyle as we live and breathe it every day. While it would probably sit equally as well in either I don't think we have the same mindset as the business crowd.

Also if we move to Business we'll have new cat mods......I like our Mike and Taltos, we've trained them in well.

    Business & Finance

Finance, Really? Surprised the word Bankers wasn't used. :pac: Nice impartial poll/post.

Business & Finance > Business Sectors > Farming & Forestry

As I understand that's the route that would have to be followed to find the F&F forum if it ends up in the 'Business' section rather than the alternative.

    ??

Business & Finance is the new category header proposed in the Feedback thread, and I copied and pasted it here - they aren't my choice of headings.

When are the new category names going to come into play.

At the moment it's Biz then some other categories under it - Business, Consumer, Personal & Taxation.

At present there's nothing to do with banks or derivatives or, well... Anything to do with Finance.

Ah, fair enough. Didn't realise they were moving finance in with business.
