    Hi,

I had the NCT this morning at 5.20am :D I have attached what i failed on. Car is an Audi A4 2005 2.0 TDI.

Question is what is the likely fix and will it cost much and secondly when I do the retest will it just be the brakes they retest or will it be the full test again?

    Cheers.

No idea on what it would cost to fix the issues. I'll leave that to someone who knows cars - me I know how to start it and dam all else :D:D:D

On the retest they will just do the brake tests that failed that's all but it needs to use the equipment so you'll need to book it in and also you have ~28days (I think) to get the test done otherwise its a full retest. It has the date it needs to be done by on the bottom. Don't leave it too late to book the retest as they are busy busy busy!

My nissan almera failed the nct a few weeks ago on exactly the same thing. Brakes and handbrake. I also had couple of small jobs like worn wiper linkage that my mechanic sorted . It cost me 150 euro.

You might need pads. Or pads and discs. Or pads, discs and calipers and maybe a change of brake fluid if it's never been done before.
The same goes for the rear, but it's only parking brake, so it looks like adjustment only.
This could be anywhere between <€100 if it's just pads all round and you do it yourself to >€700 if it needs everything and a garage does it.

lets hope its the less than 100! The rear was grand came in at only 7% imbalance!

You'll only know that by having a good look. Either a mechanic or yourself if you're feeling confident. I'd take off all the wheels in turn and try to see how both pads are, because the outside pad could be fine, but the inside one down to the metal. In my experience it's always the inside one. :(
While you're at that check the discs for lip and the general condition of calipers, lines, etc...
I'd also give the wheels a spin to see if any of them are warped, alloys do not have an easy life in Ireland.

Fronts almost passed - could just be a sticking slider pin or pins for example.( on near side )

    Handbrake almost there also -
    * any rust on discs ? are the pads making full contact - rear pads on Golfs etc
seem to often seize up , freeing out needed .
    * how far up does handbrake come - is it applying enough pressure when
    pulled

Handbrake should never come up nearly full distance.
One mechanic once advised me that he doesn't like it going past 3-4 clicks.

Yep, the recommendations seem to be between 3 & 6 clicks
