    They not cheap new are they!
    I have seen second ones on sale for 60 euro

    Seen some cheap arduino homemade ones on youtube using a pc fan to suck dust
    I don;t think that will work very well.

    Any ideas for a practical robot design?

    like a vacuum cleaner robot or cleaner or something that would actually be useful
    as opposed to a toy.

    I'm sure you could use a Pi or Arduino with a step up motor for more power. Would you not Google a few plans for an inexpensive hoover, even something that can navigate around a room that you could modify?
