A6 or A8 if you can justify the larger engine.

    Is this possible for 19k?

    Opel Insignia:

Elite is the top spec model with pretty much all you will need.

Most sales rep type of cars such as the Insignia/Superb would have what you want, nothing however will return 60MPG! 50 odd at most!

Except the 60mpg part. But that's not happening in the real world anyway no matter what car the OP buys.

Here's the first that comes to mind, 2011 Audi A4. For €19k you would get a '11 or '12 one of these with decent spec.

Another one I would recommend is this 2011 VW Passat CC. Great looking car with a very high spec.

And also this 2013 Ford Mondeo would be a good choice too. Not as "luxorious" as the other two, but still a good car.

*Note: They are just cars which I am after coming across on carzone, Im not suggesting that exact model, there are many more available!

Indeed, nothing in that segment will do 60mpg unless you drive it like a granny.

Thanks guys - Ye have provided an impressive array of cars with high spec.

Which is the better option resale wise in a couple of years - 2 or 3 year old Insignia or Mondeo with low milage or a 4 year old Passat CC or Audi A4 with 80,000 or 90,000?

I would love the A4 - but it has taken so long to get the funds together that I don't want to lose too much when I change again in 2 or 3 years time.

Having never had a diesel - is 80,000 or 90,000 high milage on a 4 year old diesel?
    Thanks for the suggestions

If resale is a worry, a VW or Audi would be the ones to go for.

Thanks - so 80,000 on a 4 year old Audi A4 would be a good buy then?

Would the VW Passat CC hold its value do you think?

Yeah they'd both hold their value well. 80k is about right for a diesel imo, it means it was driven the way it was supposed to have been.

The problem with the A4 and Passat CC is they do hold their values better but on your budget you will be buying one with a fair bit of mileage on it already, if you do a fair bit of driving yourself then by the time your ready to sell resale value isn't going to be great anyway.

So it's six in one hand and half a dozen in other - buy a 4 year old A4 or Passat CC with 80/90k miles now, keeping it 3 years and put another 80k miles on it will probably be similar as buying a 3 year old Insignia with 40k and selling it in 3 years with with 120k miles on it.

That is brill news - thanks - I'll def go for the Audi or Passat so - I'm in no panic until August - do car prices go down again once the 152 plate comes out - you can tell it has been quite a while since I have bought a car

I have spent months looking for something like this. I started with Estates as I wanted the extra room just in the boot. Checked all the following: Audi A4, A6, Passat, Volvo V60, Insignia, Mondeo, Insignia etc

I did originally go with A4 Avant as it met all the requirements. But had to drop that back after issues(clocked)

In the end when to Audi main dealer and bought 2011 A6 Saloon. I had same budget as yourself to start with but threw in a few more quid because I was buying off Audi dealer and didn't want to have the issues I had with the A4.

Really for what you are looking and your budget the Audi's are the best in terms of comfort etc.

I had my eye on this car and would have bought only the dealer wouldn't go to the price I wanted. He was playing hard ball, I offered to buy on Friday and I think he thought I would be back to him, I bought car on the Sunday as the Audi dealer was doing a bit of a sale. He rang me first thing Monday and was shocked I had bought a car :-) http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/audi/a4/used-2011-audi-a4-2-0-tdi-technik-dublin-fpa-140014229783176300?SOURCE_ID=SOURCE_ID_AD_IN_VEHICLE_COMPARE

Beautiful car inside, it has everything on it and lovely to drive.

Passat are also a good option, I had them for years but the Audi A4 is that bit nicer to drive and felt sturdier on the road

Mondeo are also a very solid car, had 2 of them over the years. Work horse of a car, I was driving up and down to Cork for months and was great on diesel....not as comfortable as Audi/Passat....need to go Zetec at least, the base model is awful

The insignia is also nice car, drove one for about a week, nicer to drive than Mondeo but I wasn't sure how it would hold it value....

I also looked at this car: http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/audi/a6/used-2011-audi-a6-great-priec-tdi-dublin-fpa-31913541273563220 Very nice car, drove well, had full service history

The prices don't do down with 152 plates from what I have seen, the import cars will come down when exchange rate changes, at the moment the exchange is terrible and all of the import dealers use this as an excuse to keep price up....

Better to keep an eye on exchange rate and wait for it to come down.....make sure to keep a record of prices of cars now and then check when exchange comes down if the value of the cars come down, this of course depends if you are buying a import.

I normally buy imports on Passats/A4 etc as they have all the extras. The Irish versions are normally very basic. This was not an issue on the A6 as most of the extras are standard on them

My daughter bought a 2009 A6, I was amazed it didn't have parking sensors! Whether that changed for OP's target 2011 on I don't know but it would be a deal breaker for me on such a big car and the money you pay.

Suprising my 09 did on the rear only - maybe it's an early 09 before the facelift.

    You won't buy a decent 2011 A6 for €19k.

Agree, as mentioned in post I had to throw in extra to get the A6

The A6 I bought had the rear parking sensors. The one I linked on carzone didn't, which I found strange as well. I did find a guy who would install them for around 150-200 euro, can't remember exact amount. If you google you will find him quickly. Based out of carlow but travels to install.

That 2011 A6 is a very basic UK model, most of them by 2010 had leather seats, sat nav, parking sensors, etc.
