have priced tiles in the last few weeks here in Cork with considerable differance between all prices.

What should I be looking for in terms of the tile when purchasing?

    thanks.

It depends on the type of tile you're after - ceramic, porcelain, stone (marble, travertine, slate, etc).

Are the tiles rectified or unrectified. Rectified tiles are ground and machined to give precise surfaces and straight edges for a perfect finish and are naturally more expensive.

Some tiles need to be sealed. Factory sealed tiles can be more expensive to buy but ask anyway.

There are lots more factors which affect price.

b and q usually have good deals on now and again, i got 600 x 600 tiles for the hall, down stairs bathroom and into the kitchen, approx €600, quoted over €1k for tiles alone in most other places and sourced adhesive and grout from a fella on adverts

Are you getting a quote with or without adhesive/grout etc? A lot of places make there money on the adhesive and especially grouts.

And over estimate the amount by 4. They also have a tiny sign beside one till saying they can't accept it back. Was told this by an employee of "correct" price tiles ;-) also happened to an aunt of mine...
