TV has satellite lnb input?

Just found out my new tv has a satellite lnb input.
Does this mean I can put an LNB directly into it and receive the Freesat satellites? Does the tuner menu come up automatically?
I am getting sky installed, but if there is an extra lnb cable from the dish could I connect the cable directly to the TV and use it to get freesat, or would it only give a sky menu...???

As in have sky from the sky box and freesat from the extra lnb from the same dish...?

I only installed the tv today, nice surprise to see the satellite input...but can it now be used?

I am wanting freesat down the line for when I get rid of sky?

    Yes

Not on my Walker ... need to use the menu to enable Sat probably and to tune in the channels in any case.

If there is a spare connector on the LNB then you can use it to receive the Free to Air Satellite channels, not Freesat unless your TV has Freesat specifically. Freesat gives a 7 day EPG whereas FTA gives now and next.

Yes or more likely Sky and FTA

When you connect the cable, yes.
I am wanting freesat down the line for when I get rid of sky?

    Don't understand the question ...

Thank you for your reply, its appreciated, but am curious does your yes cover all my questions, or just one?
If only covers one, which one?

Will one sky satellite dish get me both Freesat and Sky at the same time through 2 receivers, i.e. the TV and the Sky box?

Why I was surprised was that this feature wasnt even advertised in the spec which is very unusual, i thought.

Thanks Johnboy, I think you answered all my questions quite well. That last one wasnt meant to be a question, so fair play. :)

Thats great news, I did get mixed up with FTA and freesat. I need to do a bit more research.
Where is the FTA/ FTA stations info located...?:o

Also I put in another thread a question on hwere best to locate satellite dish? Do you know the pros and cons, what to think of on selecting a location?
Its not being answered in the construction &planning forum yet...

If tv has sat tuner then yes you can indeed run a cable from dish to the tv.

You will need to tune the satellite side of the tv, by selecting Astra 2..28east.

It will tune in the channels in any order, unless a sony which will put the best at the start bbc etc.

You can usually move the channels afterwords to any order you wish. However the sat is fta not freesat...but same channels will show but the only downfall is the tv will only tell you whats on now and next on the sat channels but still handy to have...

Yes FTA is what I meant...:)
The TV is an LG, so looking forward to the choice now...!
From what you say the only difference between FTA and Freesat is the lack of TV guide for 7 days, but I will check that out more.

    Thanks again!:D

Same channels, just the EPG is there for Freesat, now & next for FTA.

I have mine on a South Facing gable and my terrestrial aerial is mounted from the same place and poking above the roof line facing ~ north.

Essentially site it for best reception .... high enough to clear other obstacles and have it well secured.

    Happy to help

Freesat channels locked to certain channel eg bbc 101 cannot be moved..
fta you can move the channels to your fav order..

    Freesat 7 day guide
fta just now and next no big deal in my opinion...with tablets and smartphones you can look up an epg in seconds...

Use this site to help locate your dish. Enter your address and select 28.2 Astra as the group of satellites. The dish does not need to be high up as long as it can clearly "see" the satellite. Use the obstacle checker on the site if you have trees or neighbouring houses in the way.

Is that the same direction as for Sky too? Judging by what others have mentioned I think it is, but just want to doublecheck..

Most of the TVs hide FreeSat if they're not set to UK.

The only downside to this Will be they'll typically auto tune Saorview channels on the 800 numbers in an odd order but you can typically override this manually and sort them.

Having the FreeSat EPG is very handy! You also usually have to enter a postcode to localise it to a UK region.

FreeSat / FTA and Sky are all using the same satellites.

When you say you are getting Sky and are asking questions about will it work when you are getting rid of Sky, do you necessarily want Sky ? Are you doing it for the convenience of the install ?

The dishes that Sky install for their services DO point at the same satellite postion.

You could do this yourself without signing up to Sky.

Its €20 for a dish, Quad LNB (allows four connections) and wall bracket. You just need the satellite cable then. Someone will install it for you if you cannot do it yourself for not too much money.

i take it that he is getting maybe movies or sports from sky hence the install and now found tv has extra tuner for fta/freesat when recording 2 programs on box he can view freesat/saorview.

Youre both right STB and greasepalm. Ease of install, sport and movies for a year at half price...so i will give it a go.
