2006/7 Ford Focus 1.6

Hi guys

I test drove a 1.4 focus at the weekend and thought it was very weak. I do love the size and shape of the car though, so this pushed me towards the 1.6 model.

I've seen a couple of 2006 models for between 5 and 6k euro with less than 80k mileage.

My specific question is regarding the timing belt. Would it be recommednded to get it changed straight away at that age and mileage, and if so how much would it cost?

Is there anything else i should be looking out for?

I think the belt change on those engines is 100k miles or 10 years but .

In 2006/2007 they introduced special edition models called the Connection which included upgrade toys. These came with toys like keyless start which is known to cause problems with draining the battery. Other common problems are with them having a habit of going through alot of bulbs, the alternator can give trouble and on hatchbacks water can leak into the rear book lock. Other than those things they are fairly solid.

Based on your note about the connection model, i'm inclined to leave this one on the shelf.

The first one looks to be in good shape. The second one is a UK import but the driver's seat looks filthy. If the garage cannot be bothered cleaning the car for the photos then they don't give me a good first impression.

My other half said the same thing.

Odd that when i check cartell and motorcheck for the first car, the both says it's a 3 door. It helps if it put in the right reg :rolleyes:

That's actually my car haha! This is mad!
I'm looking for a Focus Saloon now so was searching on boards for reviews about them and found this thread...mad,
bazz26 is correct - the keyless entry causes a problem on the focus (you can search here and find a few posts about it) where the ignition barrel needs to be replaced after the car is 7 or so years old. Why...? No idea
This has been done on my car and I've the receipts from the Ford garage to prove it.
The connection models are amazing, in fact - I can't look at another car now that DOESN'T have all these features, i'm so used to auto lights, auto wipers, keyless entry.
Feel free to gimme a shout if you want to give it a test drive. If you dont look at mine, certainly look for a connection, but keep that ignition barrel thing in mind.
