    OK ladies,
Maybe you can help me out here. Any idea of the price range of dresses from the Bridal Outlet in Dublin. I am particularly interested in the Sincerity dresses. I wish bridal shops would just post prices or at least guidelines for prices... I don't want to be embarrassed going in asking for a dress under a grand and then looking at me like I'm nuts... :$

Might not be helpful at all, but i had a sincerity dress for our wedding (back in 2009) and the range came in at around a grand or so (cant post exact details as hubby might be reading my posts and may have a heart attack - i think he still believes to this day that i spent "around 200 quid or so" :pac::pac::pac:)

Sure you could always call anonymously about prices? :D

I have a Justin Alexander gown, which I think is under the same umbrella as Sincerity? Mine cost E1850, but I got it as a sample for E1300. Just be honest about your budget with places. They've heard it all!

I got my dress there several years ago and the prices were mainly under €2,000 if I recall. It was one of the cheaper shops I remember. I was upfront about my budget, there was no wiggle room and I think that made things easier as I wasn't humming and hawing about dresses that were too expensive.

    Thanks ladies,
I guess honesty is the best policy!

I bought a Sincerity dress and as a sample it was €575. I am 99% sure that if i had ordered it it was roughly €1000/€1100.

As somebody mentioned above, just ring or e-mail to check the prices. It makes life a lot easier. There were a few dresses I wanted to try on but when I checked the prices I realised they were out of my budget. So I avoided the trauma of finding out they looked lovely on me but that I couldn't afford them!

Shops should have no problem telling you how much their dresses are. It's a big financial transaction and they understand that.

Hi, the dress I was 99% sure I was going for was a sincerity dress and it was just €840. it was very plain but I did love it. I tried it on in the Bridal Outlet, when you go to your appointment they have three rooms with different budgets. They explain it to you when you arrive, the first two rooms are the higher budget (2000-5000) and the third room is the lower end, I can't remember exactly the figures but this room is where the Sincerity dress I liked was and all the Justin Alexander dresses. In the end I went with a different dress from another shop but sincerity are lovely!

don't be afraid to give your budget straight out!

I'd also recommend giving them a ring beforehand. I bought my wedding dress in a different shop, but when I rang I had no idea of budget because I had no idea what a dress would cost - you hear so many different figures! The lady on the phone was very helpful and told me that they stocked about 60 dresses, the cheapest being €800 and dearest something like €3k, but that most were between €1200 and €1800. She was able to give me prices over the phone for the ones I saw on their website and liked, so I was able to get a better idea of what I should be budgeting.

Definitely be up front about your budget, some places can be so helpful. On the other side you don't want to fall in love with a dress and it be something you can't afford either - This was my biggest fear!

When I found the dress I found all the stockists in Ireland and couldn't believe the difference in prices, Within reason I would have traveled around a small bit for it. In the end I spotted it in a sample sale at a wedding fair and got it for €600 I think it was retailing around the £1800 mark (I think!) its a San Patrick, very basic but I brought it to a wedding alteration shop and have added a belt and slightly amended the neck line and that's costing about €500 - including all the other nips and tucks. So all in all €1100 which isnt too bad as I had budgeted €2,000.

I have now done similar with the Bridesmaids dresses and have got them for €100 less (not a huge amount but better in my pocket than there's!

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here but will be starting the dress shopping in the next few weeks so reading with interest!

Am I completely dillusional hoping to spend less than €1,000 on a dress?!

Ideally €500 or so as I just can't justify spending thousands on a dress. Should I bother going to bridal shops or just start looking elsewhere?

    Thanks for any advice!

For a new dress in a bridal range it is possible to get a dress under €1000. You just won't have so much choice. A good plan would be not to try any dress outside your price range because you could get tempted to spend more!

With second hand dresses most ones I saw were well under €1000 some as low as €200 or €300. This is places like Oxfam, Barnardos (cheaper), Memories and Dirty Fabulous (more expensive). All these are in Dublin.

Two other options are a high street dress or a dress from a bridesmaids range. these dresses won't look as fancy as the wedding dress ranges but I went with a bridesmaid dress in ivory and was perfectly happy with it. €300 including alterations.

    Enjoy the dress shopping!

If I could thank this post and you a thousand times over I would!

I've just spent the last hour searching Ivory bridesmaid dresses and some are just beautiful, thank you thank you thank you for the recommendations. I already planned to visit Oxfam & Barnardos but hadn't heard of the other two shops you mentioned.

    Thanks again, very much appreciated!

Another place with cheaper prices is Timeless Bridalwear. They have a mix of 2nd hand and new dresses at discounted prices.

I got a bridesmaids dress in Ivory also, €225. Dessy brand I think it was. Simple but lovely. It had flowing chiffon coming down from the shoulders and waist so a bit different to the more typical bridesmaids dresses.

I had been hoping to try on dresses in bridal shops and then order something similar to whatever suited me from china(I was losing weight and hadn't a clue what would suit.

One Saturday afternoon, a local bridal shop advertised a one week sample sale, so I popped in to make an appointment for the following week.

The next Saturday I turned up and picked 5 dresses to try on(not all on sale), anyway the assistant on the day told me the original assistant had left out a dress that I must try on. I would ever have picked it. It was perfect, although a size and a half too small, it was the sample dress.

It was retailing for 1850, I paid 300, lost a bit more weight, and paid 50 euro to have it taken up(was too long after weightloss).

Envious of those of you who managed to spend less. I wish I had thought of looking at bridesmaid dresses!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 148 ✭✭emzibob

I'd recommend the sample sales too if your on a budget some of the dresses are brand new and only brought in for the sales but you get them for less than half price in some cases :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭Shybride2016

Where are these sample sales advertised? Is it in the individual shops? Maybe it's just because I haven't been tuned in to wedding dress purchases before now but I'm not sure I've ever heard or seen an ad for these!

Yeah most of the shops announce them on facebook so maybe keep an eye on any of the shops your interested in there! Also there are a few facebook pages that give notice of any upcoming sample sales might be worth joining.

Thanks to you for asking the question. I, like you plan on spending far less than €1000, just can't justify that price. I've been looking at dresses online and was planning on just buying one I like online, but people have been advising me to try some styles on first before I try & buy online, so gonna go get measured, try on a few & then maybe find a similar dress online. 2 of the website I'm browsing are the following:

I bought my dress second-hand, I'd highly recommend it if you are comfortable with ebay and recognising real deals.

I had tried on various dresses before, and found a dress I really liked, from a fairly mainstream designer.

Had a look on ebay, and there it was, my size, worn by someone slightly taller than me.

I bought it for ~350 euro (full price was 1200 in the shop) plus postage from the UK. It was perfect. I had it altered slightly, taken up and in a little.

Dry cleaned afterwards, packed up, and back on ebay with it. Sold it for ~400, buyer paid postage to the US.

pwurple, that's exactly what I want. Dreading the whole going in & trying on dresses thing. Don't know who to bring with me. My mam has 0 fashion sense & I'm still not sure if I'll have bridesmaids (don't want any but my partner wasn't his 2 best friends in the wedding party, so will probably have to have bridesmaids).

I bought my shoes the other week on ebay & love them - a little bit of my style. Far too high for me (so I'm towering over my other half haha), but I'll probably change after the ceremony because I doubt I'd last in stilettos.

We haven't even booked a venue yet, going looking on Sunday & if we like this place we're just going to book there and then. Haven't even chosen a date yet, but totally flexible so hoping they'll have a date that suits us.

I wear a lot of 50s swing dresses, so I knew that style would work for me. I ordered online from Honeypie Boutique and with my additions (full-length, chiffon overlay) it worked out at €350. There are other UK based companies like Kitty And Dulcie that make cheaper dresses and unlike China, they've got clear return policies. It helps that I already knew the style I wanted though!

    Thanks for the tip :-)

Put in the big belfast sample sale to fab and it has its own page

You will definitely get a dress for less than 1000 euro! I am getting married this summer and was determined to spend max around 600 euro. I would 100% recommend the bridal outlet in baldoyle. I got a lace dress by sincerity (which as someone mentioned is mad by Justin Alexander) for 585 euro. I was really lucky it actually wasn't an ex sample (wouldn't really have minded if it was ) was just new in and half price because it was just a one off they received. It was on the manican and I just fell in love with it when I seen it.

Other places I tried were Ophelia in Drogheda I was dealing with Aideen she was so brilliant and so lovely. Found a dress in there for 600 she said would give it to me for 500. It was fab was tough to choose between the two of them.

I rang ahead in most places and told them up front I wanted a sample/sale dress and what my budget was I figured no point in wasting both our time in me arriving and trying on expensive dresses. Best of luck :-)

oh actually just want to ask does anyone have have any advice on where to get reasonably priced veils and head pieces?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,644 ✭✭✭✭lazygal

I got a veil on Ebay for €28. I actually bought two because I wasn't sure about matching the colour to my dress, so I passed the less matchy one on to someone else. I couldn't justify shop prices for a piece of netting and mine was practically the same as the ones I tried on with my dress.

Go into a bridal shop to find out the style that suits you, then buy the dress online for a fraction of the bridal shop price. You'd get a decent dress and alterations for 500.

That would be my thought too however I am a bit wary of buying something like that online - you hear so many horror stories. Any recommendations for sites?

Happy to update that I got my dress at a sample sale yesterday, well within my budget even taking account of the alterations that need to be done. Absolutely delighted with it and relieved it's sorted as I don't have the luxury of searching every shop for months on end.
