I have s few of the 6packs of westvleteren xxi that were for sale 3yrs ago , knocking about the house.

They have been stored under the stairs, in a cool dark cupboard.

I'm gonna crack open a bottle tonight.
My question is. .

Should I swirl the bottle and drink the sediment, or should I just pour it straight and leave the sediment in the bottle ?

Sorry. We were all asleep...

You could have done it the Hopus way and poured a little shot of sediment separately!

I'm not much help really as I might be one of the very few people who thinks that Westy xii is very, very nice but doesn't live up to the hype.

And 3,2,1...

This just reminded me that I have 2 or 3 bottles left buried in the back of the drinks cabinet. I'll dig them out for Good Friday

That was the last bottle from that 6pack crate.

I've 5 more full crates left, so I'll try that idea of taking a shot of sediment next time.

I haven't tried the shot thing with this but we might start a new trend...

I've just remembered. .. I made a beer box back in2008/9.

I think it has a duval, orval and few different rochefort.

Might be time to blow the dust off

6 or 7 year old Orval will be interesting - my favourite Belgian 'normal' beer. I love it fresh and at about 3 year old... if it ever lasts that long.

I discovered that I prefer it fresh!

The hops drop back and it gets a little more funky. I've never had one over 3 year old so not sure how it changes after that...

anywho.. it does have some Duvel, and Rochefort 6, 8, &10

Wasn't me!

Love all the Rocheforts. Could never really get the hype around Duvel though, not helped by the fact that a waiter in Brussels told me off publically for my pronunciation of it!

If Duvel was pronounced the way most people think it is, it would be spelled "Duvelle"!

That was the problem. The Flemish waiter took exception to my (wrong) French pronunciation of it. He was right of course but he didn't have to make such a big deal about it. I was mortified.

Did the same thing ordering a Kinnegar beer in Rathmullan last year! All I got was muttering that time.

I really need to work on my pronunciations...

Kinnegar is like vinegar and not like Mullingar. I had opted for the wrong one.

I had to look at a YouTube clip to learn how to pronounce Nøgne Ø. I'm still not sure I have it right and sound like a prat in the local offie anyway!

The most common problematic ones should be added to the charter, along with:

• LAGER, not larger
• PALATE, not pallet or pallette
• BELGIAN, not Belgium (except when it's Belgium)
