Fuel filter for mk5 golf bxe 1.9tdi

I am going servicing my car at the weekend and want to try and get the right parts nothing worse than going to service it and having the wrong filters. I'll be going to a main vw dealer for the parts and I assume they will easily find which air and oil filter I need from the reg.

However from past experience with another car I know there are several different types of fuel filter for that engine and dealers seem to guess which one you need. Now it's bxe engine so does that narrow it down or is there still a few different types of filter. The housing is the metal one with 5 torx screws and 4 rubber houses going in.

Now I'm 99% sure this is the correct type filter to get but can anyone confirm or give any hints on how to know which I need its 2007 year.

I intend getting it in a vw main dealer. But with the mk2 octavia my dad had the dealer gave us the wrong filter and when we went back he said 3 filters are listed for that car. Now granted I know that wasn't a bxe engine or a golf but just thought they wouldn't know for the golf either.

Just give the dealer your reg, they'll pull up the factory sheet and have all the parts you need in a list.

+1 and to be honest, probably not much difference in price for a genuine VW one.

Oh your preaching to the choir here I only buy OE parts they are not much more expensive I just wasn't sure if the dealer would definitely know.

That is most likely the correct part alright. What size are the torx screws in the top of the housing, 20 or 30? 30 is the filter you linked to.

Not sure I'm away today but I'll check tomorrow when I'm back at the car. Thanks.

As the fuel pump runs everytime you turn on the ignition would I be right in thinking once I turn on the ignition 5-10 times it should start handy enough and essentially prime itself ie it won't be air locked and cutting out.

Yes I do that about 5 times on my BXE TDI, then start it and works fine. filter looks the same as I'm about to fit.

I went to get the parts today in a vw dealer. They didn't know which fuel filter I needed so he showed me the two possible filters the one I linked earlier and a smaller one with a lot smaller hole down the centre. But I checked earlier and the screws in the housing are t30 not t20 so went with the original filter I linked so fingers crossed.

C'mere like - I'm told Peugeot/Citroen haven't a notion what version of some things were fitted to what car even if you give them a VIN number, but I would have thought the Germans were big on accurate record keeping.

Anytime I need a dealer part I get asked for a VIN number - tipetty tap, grand you need that part.

He just asked for reg number. I'm fairly sure it's correct and even if it isn't although it's inconvenient it's not the end of the world as I can just do the rest of the service and get the correct fuel filter and change it a few days later.

After all that it was the wrong filter and everywhere was closed today. So I will leave it a few days and change it for the other type. The current one is only in it 30k Km anyway so probably not the end of the world if it doesn't get changed for a few weeks. Other than that the service went smoothly.
