Mac Mini help

    Hi All,

I would have considerd myself well versed with regards to computers, but I made a big boo boo and need help/advice.

I have a mac mini and decided to upgrade the hdd to a ssd (stupid in hindsight). I decided to replace the hdd myself and after alot of research I decided to give it a go. Soon into the process I realised I had broken the connection from my logic board to my IR sensor. So I manged to get it soldered back on by a professional. I was hoping everything would be ok, when I replaced rebuilt it, but it will not turn on, and there is not a kick out of it. Its like a if it is dead. I have checked all the cables and wires and everything seems in place.

I realise now it was foolish of me to do this but now it is too late. Its my €800 mac mini gone forever or do I have a chance of fixing it?

Does any body know who could fix it or take on the project?

    Thanks.:(

you probably fried the logic board when you soldered on the sensor. there can sometimes be voltage on the end of an iron tip and logic boards are sensitive... take it to an Apple dealer and they can probably replace the board, HOWEVER they will probably charge an arm and a leg for it - maybe more than a new mac mini.

sucks but that's how it is set up.

alternatively look on eBay for Mac Mini logic boards, but this is some sensitive and technical work to do yourself.

there are also some sites that will do mac repairs for a set fee.. never used them myself however and don't know how reliable that would be.
could be worth a try though...

Thanks Sibergoth, I know, I am kicking myself but there is nothing I can do about it now only learn from it.

I was so used to building windows machines I thought this would be as simple.

Do you have a link to those websites?

I can do some research on them myself.

    Thanks

If you did get a professional to solder then it is unlikely that this is the cause of your problem. If you managed to break the sensor cable perhaps you did other damage such as connecting in the ssd incorrectly. Stick back in the old hard drive and see is there any life in the Mac.

Pop in here and look up your model.

Will do, thanks for your help
