    Hi Everyone,

Looking for a bike box for airline travel. Travelling second week of May so figured I'd ask here before I spring for a new one. Surely someone has one that's taking up space in their garage???

Have borrowed before but with 2 trips this summer and a couple in the pipeline for next year I think it's time to invest.

Dublin/Kildare area would be best suited but obviously other areas would be considered.

Let me know what you have!

I have a hard shell bike box that I am no longer using. Its the same as the one below:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-elsted-bike-box/

Case is in very good condition, used twice. These receive very good reviews but seem to have come down in price recently as it had cost almost 300 in cyclesuperstore a couple of years back.

It is a stronger case than the more triangle shaped Cyclesuperstore models which I had also considered buying at the time.

If of interest, just let me know.

What kind of price letape? From what I read about that box, even before you posted it was that it was good protection but quite heavy? Also I have a 52cm.. shouldn't be a squeeze?

The box is very robust - no flex at all on the sides like on some other boxes. It's very similar to a samsonite case.

I'm not sure what it weighs but I used it to carry a std 54cm geometry litespeed. Everything fitted fine and it was within the Ryanair weight limit. I am looking for 185 firm for it. Thanks.

I have an Evans bike bag sitting in the shed, robust material, with pockets for wheel storage, and has straps for carrying, also has castors so can be wheeled along. Used for six trips, extremely tough. You can have it for E50. Based in D5 area

Save yourself a fortune use 2 cardboard boxes from LBS, reinforce one with the other and place support in centre. I have used this system numerous times now and no problems. I sold a hardcase due to weight and two annual uses.

Thanks letape, however I think the 185 firm is a bit high for me, considering one sold on here a couple months back for €130 I believe. Will have a think anyway.

I have one that I bought off a Boardsie a little while ago that you can have for free, though you would need to come and collect (I live in Newbridge). It's a Polaris bike pod-basically a soft case with a hard shell, if that makes sense (ie soft but not collapsible). I bought it because I had sent my other bike back for an inspection in my hard case, and it wasn't returned in time for me to travel. Anyway, this case has been through 6 flights with me and the bike was well protected. Case is free because the zip is a bit fiddly. Basically, one end is damaged and you have to do a bit of work to get it to zip up properly. Once zipped, it;'s fine, as mentioned I've been through 6 flights with no issues, and believe me the bike does get some abuse from the baggage handlers. I'm back in Ireland at the weekend, so any time next week would be grand if you (op) wanted to collect, if you are interested. I can send a picture on Sunday.

If OP doesn't take, i would Koobcam, had my carbon frame destroyed by handlers at the weekend and need to get a stronger box.

Very generous offer Koobcam. I'm interested in a hard case, but I'll take it to have a look and at the very least, bring it as far as Dublin for Harrybelafonte provided he confirms he wants it.

I don't want to decide to buy one of the above and then be stuck wasting yours. PM me when you can back and we can arrange something

Sorry for the late replies to this, just back in the country last night. I'll send a PM to Johnk123 to sort out collecting the case.
