    Comes with a HD screen, Quad core 1.5 GHz and dolby audio.

    hardware is ok but software is locked into amazon, movies, books etc.

    Not true, apparently cyanogenmod can be installed on it if one is so inclined

    If you need to mod it to unlock other features then I would consider it locked to the average punter.

    If you can get your hands on the HDX, then go for that. It's a little beauty. And rapid quick.
