New Laptop: What type of processor is the best?

I need to buy a new laptop, old one barely struggling on (a HP), its been a long time since I bought one so I'm very out of touch with what specs I would need.

Can you please advise me. I am willing to spend probably up to €700 if I need to.

I use it for college assignments, internet, e.g videos, films, music, that kind of thing. I need an average size screen.

    What processor is best.
    What size memory?
    Hard Drive?
    Etc.

    All opinions appreciated. :)

Look for an Intel i3 or i5 Haswell or Broadwell CPU. At this price point don't settle for less.

RAM doesn't really matter as long as it's over 4Gb.

Ask for a model with an SSD (Flash) drive and expand with external USB3.0.

Also, take a look at the Microsoft Surface 3. AFAIK Harvey Norman's have a sale on them.
