    Hi all,

Our holiday destination this year will be Mexico. So Far we have been researching locations, hotels, etc on the Net and Tripadvisor
The thing with tripadvisor, you don't know the Reviewers are: i.e. nationality, peoples standards differ.
I would like to get some Irish reviews and information on Mexico

    our info:
Married Couple, early to mid 30s,
looking for nice hotel, good restaurants,
nighlife: not too lively, but not dead
We are beach people, so a nice beach is a must

il keep it short and simple, the following information is what im looking for???

Cancun / Playa del Carmen, which is better
    (are beaches in Playa poor???)

what hotels were good / poor in your opinion???/

Were Restaurants / food good (all inclusive)??

I have read dress Codes, that require pants to be worn by men in the restaurants. Is this enforced, as id prefer to wear to shorts (dressy shorts and shirt to dinner)???

Is chichen itza worth a visit

Anything else worth visiting / seeing

The hotels so far we have been quoted for either have poor/no beach, bad reviews
    -xcarat occidental
    -Barceló Costa / Tucancun

Any Info would be much appreciated. Thank you

Went to Playa del Carmen on our honeymoon a few years ago. I really loved it, it's small but there's still plenty to do and a great base for day trips. The All inclusive hotels are on a strip just outside the town and most have direct access to the beach. We stayed at the Royal Hideaway which is adults only and it was AMAZING. It's all two storey villas (each one has about 10 rooms I think) and each one has it's own reception. I dont like high rise hotels so this was perfect for us.

Generally the all inclusive hotels have a few restaurants, in the one we stayed you were able to wear shorts at the pool restaurant but not in any of the fine dining restaurants. You'd probably get away with dressy shorts and a shirt, they usually just dont want beach wear in the restaurants which I think is fair enough. The food was amazing - they had 5 restaurants and each one was fantastic. Would go back in a heartbeat.

didn't go to Cancun so cant comment on that. Did a day trip to Cozumel and went diving, was fab. You'll have a great time.
