    Hi all.
I've been toying with the idea of talking up photography for a long time so on Friday I took the plunge and bought a camera. I spent the weekend playing with the camera settings and taking lots of photo's, most of them were rubbish but a few looked OK, I think? :)

Here's the best of a bad bunch, I mostly played around with the aperture priority mode and let the camera look after the rest.

I'd be grateful for any advice or tips, I've allot to learn, cheers!

Welcome and thanks for putting up some images for C&C.

Of the four images presented my favourite is the last one, which is simple and makes good use of negative space.

All the images show that you are considering the composition and trying to create interesting photo's. The first three shots are a bit flat, which is partly due to the light at the time and also a lack of post production (a skill which takes time to learn) In the first image the horizon is not level, a problem many of us still encounter after many years, but that is easy to fix. Getting down low in the second image works well but the image is lacking a centre of focus, it's a great setting waiting for a subject. The Baily Lighthouse is nice but would be better with some more dramatic light. I also find the tanker in the top right keeps drawing my eye.

A very good effort for a beginner. Keep them coming and hope you are enjoying the new camera.

    Thanks for your reply CabanSail.
I was a bit disappointed that the weather was so bad my first weekend with the camera, I'm going to revisit the Baily Lighthouse on a better day, I bought a tripod yesterday so I'll bring that along to.
The last one was taken from the Bull Wall, it was really dull and I couldn't find anything to photo then I noticed the two of them standing there all alone.
The camera came with some editing software which I had a look at but to be honest I am a bit baffled with it.

Hi Dylber, the 3rd shot is my favourite.

One tip I would give you is that the quality of the light is just as important as the composition so try something similar but around sunrise or sunset. It will make a dramatic difference.

Relay like the soft light you were able to get on the third photo, made the rocks and grass nice and vived.
Like kelly1 said, take photos when the sun is low in the sky, also remember that if you want to take great photos pick great subject.
