    Hello everyone,
As the title suggest I want to get back into biking. 5 maybe 6 years ago I obtained a provisional category A licence, I'm not sure of dates as I have lost it!
How can i find out exact dates??

Anyway had the bike for the sumer and that was it. Let licence go out of date and never renewed...

Does this mean I have to start all over again or is there a possibility of renewing old provisional licence??
    Thank you

RSA should be able to tell you when your provisional expired.

A learner permit/provisional licence expired more than 5 years can't be renewed and you'll have to start again from scratch.

Same with a full licence if it's expired 10 years. Some people do forget to renew them and get caught out!!

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Ok so after a phone call to the RSA I can renew my old category A learner permit as it didn't expire until July 2011.
As I am 27 years old what restrictions would I have on my licence if any?
    Thanks for replies.

    Thanks for replies.

Two options after you renew your permit.

Because of your age (over 24) you will get categories 'A2' & 'A' on your new permit but only the 'A2' category will be valid as you held the old paper 'A' restricted permit.

1: You could ride a category 'A2' bike & take an 'A2' test without IBT, pass & get a full 'A2' licence. If you ever wanted a to ride a category 'A' bike you would then have to complete a full IBT course.

2: When you get your new permit complete IBT direct access for category 'A' & ride any bike unrestricted on your permit, then you can take the full category 'A' test anytime after holding your 'A' permit for six months.
Your IBT cert would be valid for two years.
