Why did I receive a Companion Free Travel Pass as opposed to a free Travel Pass?

I recently applied for DA via Dublin and was approved; I received a Companion Free Travel Pass. But why? Is this normal?

I need crutches to get around at the moment but I wouldn't say I always need assistance when travelling.

Will this cause me problems if I choose to travel alone?

    Thanks for any responses.

Nah, they're rarely inspected up close. The rare occasion you'll need to show it to an inspector, they're only concerned you're the valid owner of the pass. They'll be well used to people on crutches who used to be in wheelchairs etc.

You don't need to have someone with you while travelling but with the companion pass it means you can if you need to.

^^ This, above. You are entitled to take a companion with you free on your pass, but you are totally allowed to travel alone on it!!
