looking for some info on what's the best heating system for an old cottage with no heating at the moment I've been looking at solid fuel burner and oil boilers and solid fuel cookers, it's only a two bed cottage and will only be taking 5 rads

Asking yourself these questions might help you decide.

    How do you define best?
    Cheapest to install?
    Cheapest to run?
    Easiest to manage?
    Automation?

Solid fuel? Unless you invest in a wood-pellet boiler it can be a lot of work.
Oil? Little or no work after initial installation and lots of automatic control.
Natural Gas? Same as oil above.
LPG? Expensive, but maybe you are rich.
Geothermal? Dont know if its worth it for such a small heating area, but not an expert on it.
Different sorts of heat pumps? I don't know.
