Currys PC World Work Experience

I'm starting work experience in Currys Pc World next week while on Easter holidays (5th year).
It's only for the week but I might ask for a second week if all goes well and they are kind enough to give it to me. I would love to work there over the weekend and eventually full/part time over the summer. I have a passion for technology and selling

My job next week will be merchandising which I don't mind but would love to be involved in sales. I presume while stocking shelves on the shop floor customers might approach me for help/advice. I know a lot about tech and the products they sell. I know the sale wouldn't go to me on the log but if my manager sees me it might be a positive.

While I was interviewed the other day there was another person on work experience and he was standing around a lot but I plan on always finding something to do and interacting with customers.

The store is actually advertising for full time staff right now so that might go in my favour.

    Does anybody have any tips?

    Thanks

To be honest you seem to have the right idea already just from the tone of your post. Punctuality and reliability are two traits any manager would look for so make sure you're on time to work every morning. Apart from that always try and keep yourself busy, if you've finished a task ask if there's anything else you can do or use your own initiative and ensure all the shelves are stocked properly etc.

If there's a technology area you are particularly interested in ask can you shadow a member of staff who works in that area for the day? Also if there's downtime and the member of staff isn't with a customer don't be afraid to ask questions, it will show you're eager to learn and passionate about the work.

Finally mention to the manager when you're leaving that you'd be interested in working for him in the future. Maybe bring in a copy of your CV on the last day so they'll have it to hand when they're looking to hire. I would also definitely ask could they write you a small reference, this will come in very handy if you're applying to other electronics shops. Best of luck with the week anyway!
