While I'm fairly knowledgable about iPhones, iPads and DSLR cameras, I'm a bit green regarding laptops.
Anyway, I'm about to invest in my 1st laptop and have started with the relevant research.
It seems when I settle on a particular brand, make, model etc, I read horror stories from users regarding poor battery life, limited lifespan etc
I think the more research that's done, the more confusing the whole process gets.
I want a laptop for editing photographs and organising music etc, nothing heavy, however, I'd like something that retains it's speed and performance.
I'm leaning towards the following, and I'd appreciate opinions, good or bad.
    It's listed at €699 in Curry's.

I reckon that's a bit steep pricewise for what you're getting. I'm not a fan of HP in general but if I was you I'd be wanting to get an i5 processor and sacrifice 8GB of RAM (you are not going to need that much based on your requirements).
The battery is only 4-cell so if you go for a 6 you'd get better running time.
I'm sorry not to link to any laptop in particular but I'm on the phone at the moment. Asus are usually good and personally I (we) have two Dells going strong (not everyone has all good experiences with any brand though)
