None came with turbo from factory. Supposed to be 104 hp when new. Is there a dealer nearby with a dyno? soon find out the truth.

Bought a new 8340 back in that day and it was throwing out 148hp on the pto. It was never touched. Gutsy yoke it was.

My neighbour bought a new 7840 in the nineties and got the turbo charger a fitted a few years later by the ford dealer. It's 115 hp with the turbo so must be around 100 without.

Alot of those 40 series new Hollands are 20 yrs and older by now and would probably need a bit spent on in the near future. Gearbox overhaul if needed could run into a tidy sum. Good tractors and all that if well serviced but watch out for the money pits.

Didn't keep it long enough. They had a name for a bit of gearbox trouble, but I never had probs.

mate of my father's got conned recently with a 7840.
Engine was Shagged. Seller changed breather pipe and few other small bits and tractor seemed A1.
After spending a tidy sum on it now

Yeah the 7840 is around the 100hp mark. Straight 6 no turbo. Those with the turbo were retro fitted.

I would always be wary buying a tractor that had a turbo retro fitted as the engines are not set up for the and if they are over worked you get issues as there aren't the right oil cooling channels in the rods pistons block or shaft.

The mark I seris 40 did have issues with the sle box but it was meow to do with the solenoid as they were inside the box. The later models moved to the outside. Later mark II and mark III sle model were very good. The more basic SL range was pretty much bullet proof.

If you need the extra power go for the 8340. It's a physically bigger machine then the 7840. What are you planning to use it for? 8360 is also a good machine.

thanks for all the replys,i was in a new holland garage today and asked them,he said the 7840 without a turbo was 100 to 105 hp but with a turbo it brought it up to around 120

If u do decided on a 7840 I would go for the sl dp a lot less problems. They are hard to find because any one who has one tends to hold onto them. If ur lookin at an 8340 do make sure it's blue roofed the solenoids for the gears are on the outside of the gear box

i would need it for spreading slurry and agitating and a bit of road work would 9000 hours be big hours for a 98 99 8340 or do they give trouble when you start going into high hours
