I know the button on my circuit board on the fob is broken. I was looking at getting this kit for replacing the button and the key housing. Is it a big job to replace that button on the board?

Take it to a decent laptop repair center they should be able to do surface mount soldering for you

Do you know if you can get those parts in an electronics shop, like Maplin?

Probably, you might even get their tech dept to do the soldering

maybe this one with a bit of "re-engineering"?

Ended up getting a spare key in a breakers yard. I replaced the dodgy switch on the fob and I'm back in business.
