Accord to the faq I need an invoice type documentation when getting the vrt?
I don't have one and was told I don't need one for the vrt.

    Which interpretation is right?

You need one but you can write it yourself. Say you bought the car from 'seller' for 'x' amount. It doesn't matter that you've written it yourself.

Anyone else sure about this? Seems kinda dodgy.

Done the same myself. Works the best. Just a stupid clause.

Did you buy the car here in the south?

If you did you have little choice but to say it was bought in northern ireland as you might not have recent enough ferry ticket.
Scribble up a hand written invoice from a made up northern ireland address and date it not too long ago.

This is what everyone is doing. I know a chap that cost himself 770 euro extra straight off. He produced the genuine ferry crossing ticket which showed that the car was too long in the country and also turned up without a receipt for the purchase. He had to go away, 'get' a receipt, take another day off to go in again and show them receipt and pay them the fine for having the car too long.

I bought in the south from someone who had just purchased it in the north. So I make up a name, get a NI address/ post code , scribble a note from Mr X that he sold it to me lass than 1 month ago?

But what's stopping anyone from saying you bought a car in Ireland, but from foreign resident (f.e. UK car from UK resident).
In that case you should be in a clear.

You need a receipt anyway so a uk resident should be giving a uk address on the receipt i would think, so its back to same idea.

    Oh of course.
Every time you buy a car with foreign number plates IMO it should be direct from foreign owner or foreign dealer, and receipt or contract of sale should be written.
Buying a foreign registered car from Irish resident is IMO dodgy.

I've got a UK Cert of Reg with name and address of "registered keeper". The end of this document is signed on15/2/15 by another name.

I assume the registered keeper sold it to a garage, which signed the reg document on the 15/2, who then sold it on to the guy I bought it from.

Do I have to use the signatured name on any made up invoice or can I use any name?
